Therapy

I work with my clients by helping them find the strategies and treatment approaches that work for them!
And I provide evidence-based psychological therapy to individual clients in-person and via telehealth.
Therapeutic modalities that I am trained in and utilise aspects of regularly include:
✼ Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR Therapist)
✼ Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
✼ Compassion Focussed Therapy
✼ Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
✼ Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
all of these therapies can be adapted to suit individuals. What I mean is that aspects of these (well, any) therapeutic approaches are not neuro-affirming if they are not adapted.
For example, exposure treatment is invalidating if the underlying challenge is a sensory issue or not irrational. Another example, is for individuals with alexithymia, therapies that ask the client to describe their emotions or thoughts in detail, is going to be difficult if not impossible. Similarly, individuals who struggle to visualise or perhaps are aphantasic do not have the ability to utilise mental imagery in the same way someone who can visualise would.
Expecting someone to adapt to the therapeutic approach can make a client feel like they’re being gaslit. Instead, my approach, emphasises working with my clients strengths and abilities and drawing from any or all of the therapies I am trained in, to provide a safe place to explore what might work and what won’t.
For a great explanation of how CBT can be adapted, check out this blog post by Lydia Meem. Dr Naomi Fisher and Eliza Fricker have a great post about this on Dr Fisher’s facebook page talking about School Can’t.
Sometimes clients present with a single problem they’d like to focus on, other times there is a complex history of multiple mental and physical diagnoses, complex and multiple traumas, chronic pain, hormonal challenges, and more. Depending on your needs, I aim to support you, either myself or helping you find the right professional(s) to support you. For more information about some of the many different therapies in general, see this blog post.
Please note, I do not provide emergency, out of hours, nor crisis support. Please contact Lifeline 13 11 14 or your nearest Emergency Hospital for urgent support.
Public hospitals with 24/7 emergency services on the Gold Coast include Gold Coast University Hospital (Southport) and Robina Hospital. For private emergency care, options are John Flynn Private Hospital (Tugun) and Pindara Private Hospital (Benowa), with Gold Coast Private Hospital (Southport) also offering private services. The Tugun Satellite Health Centre offers urgent, walk-in care for minor injuries and illness. Another option is 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for non-urgent health advice from a qualified nurse.
